Crazy Calculus...
From the title one may get the feel that this is something about the character in Tintin comics.But it is unfortunate for all those comic readers that this has nothing to do with it.Rather this deals with one of the instances which shows my endless efforts to define life(in relation to particular events)in terms of the queen of sciences.
How will you define a friend?Why do one need a friend?Lets analyse this.
Let a person P be expressed as a function of so many parameters,including time.At some point of time t,P depends on the above parameters(whatever they be).The maximum values of P,which is analogous to the best performance of the person(intuitively!),for each parameter can be found out by varying one parameter at a time,keeping all others constant(in essence,the partial derivative of P) and equating it to zero.Thus corresponding to each parameter the expression for maximum P can be obtained.
Now,a friend is defined as some form of computing agent who/which determines which of the parameters is the key to maximise P(to obtain the best/optimum performance),assuming there is uniqueness in the existence of the key(really complex task?!)and give THE parameter as input at the particular instant of time.Again it/he/she has to calculate this at every instant of time(!).
Now,what is the need of such a friend?P cannot know exactly when it will become maximum or minimum since P doesnt know its nature of variation completely.At the maximum it can know some type of relative performance level.This makes the computing agent necessary to obtain the maximum P at every instant of time.
